That’s what Sasha did when she discovered that she was no longer able to live with her grandpa, who raised her, but is now hospitalized with cancer. Sasha has to move from a small town to her Dad’s in the Moscow suburbs. Unexpectedly everybody in Moscow takes her — shaved and lost — for a boy. From that point Sasha begins her wandering through the big city and its lonely, hidden places.

The wayward stove—maker Agnia does not spoil life - she lives in the Far North in an emergency poorly heated house, fishes in an ice hole and raises her son alone. Seasonal work makes it impossible to save up for new housing, and the local head of administration, Boris, is in no hurry to resettle people. Agreeing to Boris's proposal to lay out a stove in his hut, Agnia gradually falls in love with him, but eventually uses him to achieve her main goal — to move to a new apartment. And he does it in a very unusual way.

Olya, a straight-A middle school student, is experiencing her parents' break-up and her first love at the same time, all while struggling to maintain the image of a perfect child. One day she stays at her mom's house for a sleepover; the next day, she goes to her dad's. Neither parent is happy about the arrangement, nor is Olya. This is a coming-of-age story set in a small, bleak Russian town.
