Nous sommes en 1962. Johannes Leinert se rend, en compagnie de son directeur de thèse, à un congrès de physique qui se tient à l’hôtel Esplanade dans les Alpes suisses, durant lequel un scientifique iranien doit y dévoiler une nouvelle théorie révolutionnaire de mécanique quantique. Mais l’orateur tant attendu a du retard. Ces hommes distingués passent le temps entre dîners raffinés, joutes verbales spirituelles et excursions à ski. Une mystérieuse pianiste attire Johannes dans ses filets mais elle en connaît étrangement bien trop sur lui. Quand l’un des physiciens allemands meurt d’une façon atroce, deux enquêteurs font leur apparition, suspectant un meurtre. Tandis que de curieux nuages se forment dans le ciel, la pianiste disparaît sans laisser de traces, et Johannes découvre un secret dans les profondeurs de la montagne.

Erich „Rickerl“ Bohacek is a likeable loser who on the one hand tries to build up a music career and on the other still wants to be a good father for his little son.
