En Lettonie, on fête dans l'allégresse la nuit la plus courte de l'année. Une poétesse portugaise, deux pompiers anglais et une hôtesse de l'air déchaînée vont être emportés dans ce délire. Un Américain aussi, plutôt bougon, qui débarque à Riga pour retrouver sa demi-sœur. Dès son arrivée, il déteste ce pays de dingues. Mais les gens qu'il rencontre et les péripéties rocambolesques qui s'accumulent sur sa route pourraient le faire changer d'avis.
