Tsuneo, brillant étudiant en biologie marine, aimerait poursuivre ses études au Mexique où il pourrait vivre son rêve, plonger dans les eaux tropicales. Pour cela il lui faut de l’argent et il cherche donc des petits boulots. Un soir, il tombe littéralement sur Josée et la sauve d’une horrible chute. Suite à cette rencontre accidentelle, la grand-mère de Josée engage Tsuneo comme aide-soignant. Josée se révèle autoritaire et têtue, mais Tsunéo est d’une grande patience. Ils apprennent à se connaître et même à s’apprécier. Un jour, il emmène Josée à la mer…

Fujimaki Tatsuomi is a pathologist working at the Pathlogy department at Meikyo Medical University Hospital. He's looked down upon by the other staff around him, and his relationship with Maho his wife, a former nurse, has cooled down. After a patient's suspicious death, he makes a new discovery; when the deadly bacteria "Gift" invades the body, the patient soon dies, but the "Gift" leaves no trace thereafter, enabling it to be used as the perfect weapon to kill. As a result of this discovery, Fujimaki's life dramatically changes. While searching for a way to treat his ailing wife's heart disease, he becomes embroiled in a conspiracy surrounding the killer bacteria "Gift."

She has a colleague, Tsukimoto Makoto, who works in the same department. They are totally opposite in terms of their personalities and interests. Mita Sakura is bright and warm-hearted, but Tsukimoto Makoto is calm and cold-hearted. They do share the same desire to return these unidentified bodies to their families. To find the identities of these deceased people, they rely on the few clues that are left behind on them.
