Kjetil, an offshore worker, is left with his six-year-old adopted son after his wife dies. To find out more about the boy's background Kjetil decides to bring the boy back to Colombia.

1954, in the small mountain town of Colombia, Alfonso, an 11-year old boy whose mother passed away, doesn't have any family and to survive has no other recourse than to leave school and begin working as errand boy at a local pharmacy. There he learns all of the basic concepts of medicine, which changes his life in spectacular fashion.

Dans un motel reculé, un père et son fils se démènent pour faire tourner l'entreprise familiale. L'un hante les lieux comme une âme en peine et le second déraille peu à peu. L'arrivée impromptue d'un étranger va faire basculer la montagne où ils sont tous perchés.
