Métisse, donc partagée entre deux cultures, Haewon entretient une relation amoureuse avec Seongjun, l'un de ses professeurs à l'université. Quand elle met fin à cette aventure, elle est gagnée par la mélancolie. Sa mère, dont elle est très proche, lui annonce sa décision de s'installer au Canada. Avant de partir, celle-ci lui conseille de suivre ses désirs. Désespérée, Haewon contacte à nouveau Seongjun. Ce jour-là, le couple rencontre des étudiants dans un restaurant et leur relation est révélée, au grand desarroi da la jeune femme. Haewon est de plus en plus perturbée et Seongjun émet l'idée qu'ils partent ailleurs tous les deux.

Quelque part en Europe. Younghee a tout laissé derrière elle : son travail, ses amis et son histoire d'amour avec un homme marié. Jin-soul, who is just beginning to gain a reputation as a writer with her novel, Human in a Natural State, meets a woman, named Nan-ryeong, at a reading session held at a local bookstore in Gangneung. Nan-ryeong has also written a novel, titled 'The Women Who Brush Their Teeth Outside', influenced by Jin-soul. Jin-soul, who feels a strange sense of connection to Nan-ryeong, reads her novel on the train returning to Seoul. A story of two people who somehow overlap. But, while Jin-soul has been cleverly hiding behind a pseudonym, Ju-ok, Nan-ryeong is open about who she really is. Eventually, the insidious relationship between the two is exposed, and cracks begin to form in Jin-soul′s seemingly happy life.

One day, they save a deer from a hunter, and it wants to repay them by making their wish come true. This is an allegorical love story that comically depicts the journey of seeking true love and happiness.
