Carag n'est pas un adolescent de 13 ans comme les autres : il peut se transformer en puma. C'est un marcheur des bois et, comme tous ceux de son espèce, il doit dissimuler sa véritable nature. Dans une école secrète pour jeunes métamorphes, il est encadré par Andrew Milling, un millionnaire bienfaiteur qui perçoit rapidement l'extraordinaire potentiel de Carag. Aux côtés de ses nouveaux amis Brandon (un timide bison métamorphe) et Holly (une effrontée écureuil métamorphe), Carag commence à contrôler ses pouvoirs et, pour la première fois, il éprouve un sentiment d'appartenance. Mais son nouveau bonheur est perturbé lorsqu'une exploitation minière menace de détruire l'environnement des Woodwalkers et leur communauté. Cette menace se traduit bientôt par de mystérieuses attaques contre les humains. Alors que la situation s'aggrave, Carag et ses amis doivent distinguer les alliés des ennemis pour sauver le monde unique des Woodwalkers et protéger les humains innocents.

The seemingly innocent Alexander Rothstein ends up in jail for drug trafficking. In fact, he bears the responsibility of providing for his newly pregnant girlfriend Julia and their future child. To make matters worse, he ends up sharing a cell with the dangerous Russian Viktor and the unstable Arab Khalil. But first the Woodwalker Council must decide whether or not Carag's mentor and patron of the school, Andrew Milling, should be found guilty of the attack on the humans. Carag decides to lie for Milling in order to finally see his family again and reconcile with his father. When it soon emerges that the school is in danger and that Milling has a hand in this too to further his political career, Carag and his friends have to find proof fast! Of all people, the snow she-wolf Tikaani comes to Carag's aid. But can Carag really trust her?
