Nineteen-year-old Anna, living at the end of the nineteenth century in the town of Zatonsk, unexpectedly discovers that she possesses supernatural powers. The spirits of the dead literally haunt her, begging to help. Aided by her visions, Anna manages to investigate and solve a number of mysterious crimes which have baffled the police. An experienced detective, 37-year-old Yakov Shtolman, who is assigned to the police department and teams up with Anna and becomes her partner in hunting down criminals.

1978. Cherkasov's group begins a new investigation: a young gamer Kira Miller and her lover Colonel Potapenko were killed at a dacha near Moscow. It turns out that shortly before her death, Kira lost 400 thousand rubles in a katrana - an underground casino. To find out all the circumstances of the case, Major Cherkasov decides to send Sonya Timofeeva to the katran. At the casino, Sonya meets Boris, nicknamed the Musician, who works there as a pianist. The main character of the story is veteran officer Mikhail Samylov who loses his friend Igor Makarov in Syria. Mikhail comes back to his port hometown Yantarsk to help Makarov’s widowed wife. He blames Igor’s death on himself. He doesn’t know, though, that Makarov is actually alive and turns out not who he seemed to be. A small port town becomes a battlefield of life and death. A chain of crimes always leads to one man — owner of the port Kupriyanov. Lost at what to do with his life, Mikhail, tormented by the pangs of guilt, will have to solve the crimes and find a new reason to keep on living.
