In the Pearl Harbor era, a second-generation Japanese-American grapples with his identity amid the turmoil of World War II. Born in Los Angeles and educated in Japan, he returns to the USA and works at a Japanese newspaper. However, the outbreak of war and a racist executive order forcefully deport his entire family to a detention center in California. Torn between his American upbringing and Japanese heritage, he decides to serve as a translator and goes to war.

Natsuko Miyamoto (48), a full-time housewife and mother of two (daughter Hana, 20, and son Kotaro, 17), is shocked when her husband Akira (54) announces that he will quit his job to explore his long-term interests in agriculture. Natsumi's (Hikaru Takahashi) younger sister Haru passes away because a disease. She was just 19. Natsumi loved her younger sister a lot. Meanwhile, Haru was engaged to Togo. Togo comes from a distinguished family, who runs a large company. His parents care about pedigree a lot and suggests to Natsumi that she should now date Togo. Natsumi turns down their request, but Toho accepts his parents request to date Natsumi. Suddenly, Natsumi asks Togo to take her to places where he took her younger sister. Togo is surprised by her request, but he begins to take Natsumi around. Natsumi soon becomes attracted to Togo, but she feels a sense of guilt for her feelings.

Takeshiro Shikota is a 27-year-old pediatrician in Hokkaido, Japan. He was born and raised in Hokkaido. One day, Takeshiro is transferred to the newly established PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit). The unit is for children under the age of 15 who require advance and intensive treatment. There, he meets Dr. Hajime Ueno. Hajime is a pioneer in his field and hopes to establish PICU all over Japan. His goal is to bring sick children to PICU as quickly as possible and accept them under any circumstances. Meeting with Hajim, changes Takeshiro life as a pediatrician.
