Introverted Weichung has been married to Feng for nine years. They have one son together, and Feng would like to have another child with him. I-Shan, une jeune fille originaire de Tainan, rêve d'aller vivre à Taipei. Par chance, sa tante y vit et finit par l’accueillir chez elle. I-Shan se met immédiatement à la recherche d’un emploi, mais le marché du travail s’avère très cruel : ses entretiens d’embauche génèrent une immense frustration et elle est ensuite trahie par sa collègue. Lorsqu'une querelle familiale l'oblige à quitter l'appartement de sa tante, I-Shan se rend compte qu'elle est toujours une étrangère à Taipei.
