In the final hours of April 14, 1912, the RMS Titanic, on her maiden voyage from Southampton to New York, collided with an iceberg and ‘the unsinkable ship’ slowly sank. It was one of the most tragic disasters of the 20th Century. Fifteen hundred seventeen men, women, and children lost their lives.

Issue du folklore anglais, « Sweeney Todd » raconte l'histoire morbide d'un barbier, Benjamin Barker, condamné au XIXème siècle à tort au bagne par un juge corrompu en Australie, d'où il s'évade quinze ans plus tard. Décidé à retrouver sa femme et son enfant, il retourne en Angleterre sous le nom de Sweeney Todd, mais découvre que le fameux juge est sur le point d'épouser sa fille ! Désespéré, il plonge peu à peu dans la folie et décide de prendre sa vengeance. Se met alors en place un monstrueux carnage… Avec la collaboration de Madame Lovett, amoureuse de lui depuis toujours, il tranche la gorge de ses clients, pendant qu'elle accommode les corps dans ses fameuses tourtes à la viande.

On 3 May 2022, Cameron Mackintosh invited many of Stephen Sondheim’s old friends to join him in London’s West End for a thrilling, joyously staged production. He had specially devised it to celebrate Sondheim’s extraordinary talents as a composer and lyricist. Featuring an all-star cast including Michael Ball, Helena Bonham Carter, Rob Brydon, Petula Clark, Anna-Jane Casey, Rosalie Craig, Janie Dee, Judi Dench, Daniel Evans, Maria Friedman, Haydn Gwynne, Bonnie Langford, Damian Lewis and Julia McKenzie.

New York, 1971. There’s a party on the stage of the Weismann Theatre. Tomorrow the iconic building will be demolished. Thirty years after their final performance, the Follies girls gather to have a few drinks, sing a few songs and lie about themselves.
