Shortly after Eli returns from a successful hunt for a suspected criminal, a stranger dressed as a priest suddenly shows up at his house. In the midst of a battlefield in Flanders during the First World War, British soldier Eddie finds himself facing a mysterious figure who reveals himself to be the god of the dead, Thanatos. The story revolves around Hans, a kind-hearted but not particularly bright young man. He is bored on his father's farm. He would love to see something of the world and find a woman to marry. So he sets off and wants to visit his grandmother at the same time. However, the route takes him right through the fairytale land of the Brothers Grimm, where he meets various characters from their stories: Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Rumpelstiltskin, Mother Hulda, the Brave Little Tailor, Puss in Boots, Master Pfriem and, finally, Father Death. The latter is a little under the weather and the unsuspecting Hans helps him back on his feet.

A village somewhere in Bohemia in the 19th century: Seven citizens are found mutilated within a very short space of time. The notables are at a loss. Is it something to do with the mysterious stranger who recently came to the village? Is he a messenger of the devil? In any case, he doesn't seem to have come alone: Eerie apparitions scare the inhabitants, and a werewolf is supposedly up to mischief in the woods. All just a figment of the imagination? Not at all! Because the stranger is gathering his emissaries around him to raise the dead. It's time for his revenge.
