5th Republic is a controversial political drama about the Fifth Republic of South Korea, one of the most turbulent times in modern Korean history. The 41-episode television series covered the key aspects of the period from President Park Chung-hee's assassination to general Chun Doo-hwan's military coup and his bloody rise to power, as well as the ensuing conflicts between the pro-democratic movement and Chun's military regime and the behind-the-scenes power struggles that ultimately led to Roh Tae-woo's presidential succession in 1987. Given the sensitive nature of the subject matter, 5th Republic tread a fine line between fact and fiction, and faced many challenges even before the start of the production - one of which was pressures from actual political figures who threatened to sue the network for defamation if the script was not modified. Moreover, there was concern over the possible glorification of the drama's lead character Chun Doo-hwan played by Lee Deok-hwa whose strong charisma helped draw in big audience during the drama's initial broadcast on MBC in 2005.

Nourrissant une profonde haine pour Go Bok Tae qu'il considère comme responsable du drame minier, il consacre principalement sa carrière à essayer d'appréhender ce dernier, gardant toujours l'espoir de retrouver ses jeunes frères dont il a perdu la trace alors qu'il vivaient ensemble dans un orphelinat. Le second, Jang Dong Cheol, est un habitué des centres de détention. Il grandit dans les rues en usant de ses poings et de sa volonté pour survivre, cachant sa véritable identité sous celle de Heo Yeong Dal, chef de gang très populaire au caractère audacieux et effronté. Quant au cadet Jang Dong Wu, celui-ci a été adopté enfant par une famille aisée qui lui donna le nom de Yun Yang Ha. Désormais héritier d'un empire de casinos et doté d'une personnalité cynique et froide, il grandit en pensant que le monde tournait autour de l'argent, jusqu'au jour où il fera la rencontre d'Oh Jeong Hee, jeune fille issue d'un milieu modeste et travaillant comme croupière qui suscitera également l'intérêt du gangster Yeong Dal.

Lights and Shadows is a 2012 South Korean retro-drama series, starring Ahn Jae-wook, Nam Sang-mi, Lee Pil-mo and Son Dam-bi. It aired on Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation from November 28, 2011 to July 3, 2012 on Mondays and Tuesdays at 21:55 for 64 episodes. The series was originally planned for 50 episodes, but it was extended to 64 due to high ratings.
