Romance of the Three Kingdoms is a Chinese television series adapted from the classical 14th century novel of the same title by Luo Guanzhong. It is part historical, part legend, and part mythical – romanticises and dramatizes the lives of feudal lords and their retainers, who tried to replace the dwindling Han dynasty or restore it. The focus is mainly on the three power blocs that emerged from the remnants of the Han dynasty, and would eventually form the three states of Cao Wei, Shu Han, and Eastern Wu. The novel deals with the plots, personal and military battles, intrigues, and struggles of these states to achieve dominance for almost 100 years.

Through unexpected circumstances, an illegitimate daughter, Han Ziqing, crosses paths with Jun Beiye, a prince known as the God of War. Drawn into national conflicts, they face off against various factions together. Despite her low status as the prime minister’s illegitimate daughter, Jun Beiye, who is feared for his battle prowess, chooses to protect her, revealing a deep devotion beneath his ruthless exterior.

Palace of Desire, also known as Da Ming Gong Ci, is a Chinese television series based on the life story of Princess Taiping, a daughter of China's only female emperor Wu Zetian. Directed by Li Shaohong and Zeng Nianping, the series starred Chen Hong, Zhou Xun, Gui Yalei and Winston Chao in the leading roles. It was first broadcast on CCTV-8 in mainland China on March 30, 2000.

Da Feng Ge, also known as Da Han Shengshi and Wind Song, is a Chinese television series based on historical events in the early Han Dynasty, beginning with the founding of the dynasty by Emperor Gaozu after his triumph over Xiang Yu, and the events leading to the reign of Emperor Wen. Directed by Huang Jianzhong, the series starred Ray Lui, Wang Ji, Liu Mu, Zhang Guangbei, Chen Wei and Li Qingxiang in the leading roles. It was first broadcast on CCTV-8 in China on 17 December 2011.

Wang Xuan is moved and inspired by Xiao Qi's wish to bring peace and prosperity to the nation and they fall in love.
