L’histoire se déroule vers la fin de la dynastie Ming, au cours des années 1620 l’empire est au bord de l’effondrement. Dirigé par Wei Zhongxian “chef de la clique des Eunuques et chef des gardes du corps de l’empereur” sème le chaos pendant huit longues années jusqu’à la venue au pouvoir du jeune empereur qui s’empressa de priver Wei de tous ses privilèges. L’empereur décide alors de traquer Wei et les autres membres de la clique, la tâche est assignée à trois gardes du corps Lu Jianxing (Wang Qianyuan), Shen Lian (Chang Chen), Jin Yichuan (Li Dongxue).Ils ont chacun leurs désirs et rêvent d’une meilleur vie, et l’argent semble être la clé. Lorsque Wei est sur le point d’être capturé, celui-ci propose une grande fortune en échange de sa liberté…
