The film’s plot is based on a true story about a 10-year-old boy from a village, Ilya,whose father is killed. The criminal remains unpunished. Nobody around this situation is particularly worried, except the child, who arranges a real hunt for the murderer.

While on a train journey, Tolya meets a homeless boy Kolya. Due to a series of coincidences, wrong decisions, and the cunning of the young boy, Tolya is mistaken for a child kidnapper, and now the police are on his trail. Tolya finds himself playing an unexpected role of a nanny and tasked to deliver his new ward to his relatives in the town of Kogalym. Failure isn't an option, as it would cost him everything: his wife, job, and the future.
