Sur le ton de la comédie, ce téléfilm décrit les rapports entre cet ex-gendarme encore tout empreint de sottise administrative et la population de l'île naive mais joyeuse. La comédie l'emporte sur le drame et le gendarme ne tarde pas à acquérir la joie de vivre des autotochnes.
