Part one is Chef Joachim Splichal, the chef de cuisine for the Regency Club in Los Angeles, speaking about the future of French cuisine, with the young chefs challenging the old cooking methods. Part two shows the preparation of fine dining foods. Part three shows the final products, with the menu items listed and the final dishes plated. The fine dining images are turned surrealist and disturbing when set to the intense mechanical score and with prolonged still shots.

Schmidt follows the 27 miles of the “street of life” to Pacific Palisades, where the boulevard ends at the ocean. While interviews with celebrities from show and film document the well-known glamorous side of Sunset Boulevard, Schmidt also witnesses the transformation in the wake of a gigantic investment boom

Cooking with Master Chefs was a PBS television cooking show that featured Julia Child visiting 16 celebrated chefs in the United States. An episode that featured Lidia Bastianich was nominated for a 1994 Emmy Award. Other chefs she visited included Emeril Lagasse, Jacques Pépin, and Alice Waters. The show featured a companion book of the same name, published in 1993. Reruns of the show currently air on Create.
