When Mikey's parents discover he has failed his accountancy exams for the third time, they are concerned. When he falls in love with a girl from the Salvation Army, they are horrified. Fleeing from the disapproval of his parents and the Jewish community Mikey finds help from a sage with a six-foot beard.

Inspired by true events. Billy (Phil Daniels) comes home on shore leave from the Royal Navy, and discovers that his brother Michael has died two weeks prior to his leave. Trying to piece together what happened, Billy becomes enamoured with Myra (Joanne Whalley), a nightclub singer.

The BBC's answer to Dynasty, Howards' Way was launched in 1985 with an enormous 1 million pound budget. The main characters in the show were 'best boat designer in the world' Tom Howard, his boutique running wife Jan Howard, 'I'll have a drink' Jack Rolfe and a nasty man called Ken Masters. It starred Maurice Colbourne.
