Brad Allen, compositeur, et Jan Morrow, décoratrice, partagent la même ligne téléphonique sans s'être jamais rencontrés. Jan est exaspérée par Brad qui monopolise la ligne pour charmer ses conquêtes. Un jour, Brad la reconnait et se fait passer pour un autre, tandis qu'elle ignore sa véritable identité.

Tammy quitte la rivière dans le Mississippi pour aller au collège, développer une relation avec Tom Freeman (John Gavin). Sandra Dee remplace Debbie Reynolds dans ce domaine et le troisième film Tammy. Ce film présente à la fois une nouvelle chanson thème, « Tammy Tell Me True », et le caractère de Mme Annie Call, joué par le vétéran Beulah Bondi. Mme Appel se déplace finalement avec Tammy au Ellen B. et serait le catalyseur pour les événements dans le film suivant, « Tammy et The Doctor ».

Le Pr Jonathan Jones est un brillant mais un peu excentrique spécialiste des langues anciennes orientales. Seuls sa femme Barbara et un ami policier le soutiennent dans son combat pour prouver son innocence. Inculpé, Rusty fait appel à Sandy Stern, un célèbre avocat. Sa cause semble néanmoins perdue. La disparition mystérieuse d'une pièce à conviction remet bientôt tout en question...
