Sophie Broadgate

A film shot in 1957 at the Maudsley Hospital, London, captures children under observation for atypical behaviour. In the present day, three autistic respondents watch the footage, offering new and insightful interpretations of the children’s actions. Through speculation and identification, with wit and audacity, the responses forge a new soundtrack from an autistic point of view.

A spoken word poetry film made from the best real-word toilet graffiti Jane had ever come across. Jane collected toilet graffiti from queer clubs and other places across the UK, then put them together into this love letter to queer spaces and the connection and solidarity we can find in unexpected places.

The film includes the thoughts, words and visual ideas of over 30 Autistic and neurodivergent women, non-binary and trans people. In conversation with the filmmaker Sophie Broadgate, the people involved discuss the world around us, their loves, senses, big questions, research and all our theories.
