The story revolves around an art-gallery manager who puts on a show featuring the scandalous works of a woman artist who committed suicide. He is unjustly accused of having committed adultery with her, and for some reason the authorities decide to make an example of him. He is imprisoned at about the same time that Hitler and the nascent Nazi party attempt the infamous Beer Hall Putsch, and the gallery manager's girlfriend and a Swiss writer valiantly (and unsuccessfully) attempt to get better justice for him. Nobody in authority, it seems, has the courage to take up the challenge of righting this particular injustice.

However, the route takes him right through the fairytale land of the Brothers Grimm, where he meets various characters from their stories: Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Rumpelstiltskin, Mother Hulda, the Brave Little Tailor, Puss in Boots, Master Pfriem and, finally, Father Death. The latter is a little under the weather and the unsuspecting Hans helps him back on his feet.

Elle n’hésitera pas à tirer sur l’assassin de son jeune policier. Il sera remplacé par Jan Orlop, incarné par Thomas Scharff.
Notons également la présence du policier Ingo Esser (saison 6) incarné par Walter Renneisen.
Sur le plan privé, la commissaire Léa Sommer vit seule avec son fils Daniel qui partira étudier la musique classique aux États-Unis. De manière très récurrente, elle est au téléphone avec son ami Jonathan, visiblement toujours aux quatre coins du monde pour raisons professionnelles. Le rôle de Jonathan ne sera jamais vraiment incarné, sinon une ou deux fois, très brièvement et sans scénario.

Le commissaire Balko est décontracté, relax et s'habille de façon très cool tandis que son équipier, le commissaire Klause Krapp, surnommé "Krappi" est tout l'inverse et porte toujours une tenue impeccable. De plus, la mère de Krapp l'appelle souvent au boulot. Toutefois, Balko et Krapp sont équipiers et amis et font un excellent boulot!
