Si sa filmographie est aujourd'hui controversée pour son biais patriarcal et paternaliste, voire raciste, elle témoigne d'une époque où la conquête de l'Ouest, avec ses aventures et ses amitiés viriles, faisaient encore rêver l'Europe de la guerre froide.
