Mati, a 70-year-old bibliophile, cannot cope with his wife's death. As loneliness and indifference overrun his thoughts, he contemplates suicide until he meets a younger man who sparks his interest in life.

There are two people who wake up in the same bed one morning, and neither of them has a clue who the other is. Viivi would like to run away and the man is sleeping like a log. Unlike Viivi and Andu themselves, the viewers know both very well. They know that Viivi has the worst day in her life and that Andu is a dweeb, but not completely hopeless; a rather good-hearted man. They are both hopelessly lonely people hoping that maybe there's someone somewhere - So they might as well meet.

The last film directed by Kaljo Kiisk has been dedicated to theatre and the people in theatre. You are entering the hectic world of musicians, zanies and jesters - and don't expect to hear a symphony but a single delicate sound of a flute.

A la veille de la Première Guerre mondiale, Oda von Siering quitte Berlin pour retrouver le domaine familial de Poll sur la côte baltique. Dans cette impressionnante maison sur pilotis, son père, un savant désavoué par le corps médical, poursuit ses recherches. Elles tendent vers un eugénisme négatif. Aux alentours, allemands, russes et estoniens se côtoient non sans difficulté. L’inquiétant professeur n’hésite d’ailleurs pas à profiter des soldats du tsar Nicolas II, qui lui confient pour ses études les dépouilles des anarchistes exécutés. L’un d’eux, vivant mais blessé, est recueilli secrètement par Oda. Ils se lient d’amitié malgré le danger, et Oda consigne dans ses carnets les impressions laissées par ces épisodes dramatiques.
