Fiodor, un camionneur, découvre dans une lettre être le père d'une adolescente de 16 ans, Vera, née d'une aventure sans lendemain, et dont la mère vient de mourir. Vera, surnommée «la mouche», est livrée à elle-même dans une petite ville de province. Grâce à la clé jointe au courrier, Fiodor s'installe dans la maison. Mais la jeune fille le rejette et s'enferme dans le mutisme. Le père va devoir lui montrer qu'elle a besoin de lui...

In present day Moscow three childhood friends in their forties - former school band players - live their everyday lives of a police officer, a taxi driver and a surgeon. They have lost track of each other. Three stories of betrayal, love and ageing are told in parallel. In fact, unknown to our heroes, their paths cross and their lives become connected. But they are not aware of it even when they reunite for a breaking performance at their graduation anniversary.

In the summer of 1942, the Soviet army is fighting the Germans on the Don River. Young lieutenant Ogarkov gets lost in the steppe and fails to deliver a redeployment order. For that, he is sentenced to death. Now, another soldier has to lead him across the steppes to his death.
