Rongé par la culpabilité, il rompt avec sa fiancée, Anne qui n'est autre que la sur de la victime, et quitte le village pour une autre vie... Huit ans plus tard, le glacier rend le corps du jeune surfeur mort. Marc, qui vit désormais à Paris, apprend la nouvelle par un journal télévisé. Très marqué par ce qu'il a vécu il y a huit ans, il décide de se rendre aux funérailles du jeune homme, espérant ainsi, une fois pour toutes, tourner la page de ce drame. Il revient à Varens mais ses retrouvailles avec Anne et le village sont compliquées. Entre ceux qui le blâment pour l'accident et Anne qui ne lui a jamais pardonné son départ, il se retrouve face à une hostilité qu'il a du mal à gérer.
