« Marius et Jeannette » est le septième long-métrage de Robert Guédiguian. Dans les quartiers nord de Marseille, Marius, gardien d’une usine en démolition, rencontre Jeannette, caissière de supermarché tout juste licenciée. Jeannette élève seule ses deux enfants, Marius a perdu les deux siens dans un accident de voiture. Une émouvante comédie sociale, qui montre que la solidarité d’un groupe reste le meilleur rempart contre les coups durs de la vie. Sélectionné au festival de Cannes 1997, le film obtient le Prix Louis-Delluc et le César de la meilleure actrice pour Ariane Ascaride. Avec 2,5 millions de spectateurs, il révèle son auteur au grand public.
