Perhan, fils bâtard d’un soldat slovène et d’une tzigane, vit avec sa grand-mère maternelle et bien d’autres compagnons farfelus dans la banlieue de Skopje. Il aimerait épouser Azra, mais la mère de son amour d’enfance refuse. Il rêve de fortune et avec la rencontre du riche Ahmed Dzida ; Perhan va pouvoir dealer avec lui et envoyer sa sœur Danira, à l’hôpital. Il ne peut pas rester auprès de sa sœur et décide de suivre Ahmed avec les enfants que ce dernier a acheté. Bientôt l’enfant perdra son innocence…

En Yougoslavie, en 1952, à l'heure où Tito divorce d'avec Staline, il n'est pas bon de laisser paraître des penchants staliniens. Mesa, le père de Malik, victime d'une vengeance de sa maîtresse, est envoyé en camp de travail — pour ses enfants, il est « en voyage d'affaires ». Alors que son frère passe son temps au cinéma, Malik, en réaction aux crises que traversent sa famille et son pays, se réfugie dans le somnambulisme… Lorsque la famille est à nouveau réunie, Malik redécouvre son père, et connaît ses premiers émois amoureux.

En avril 1941, des militants communistes serbes fuient les bombardements allemands et se réfugient dans une cave. Parmi eux, deux amis, Blacky et Marko, et une actrice, Natalija, convoitée par les deux hommes. Mais Natalija préfère jouer la carte allemande et frayer avec un officier, Franz. Peu à peu, Marko s'institue le seul intermédiaire entre les occupants de la cave et le monde extérieur. Au retour de la paix, il juge plus pratique de ne rien dire à ses camarades enfermés et leur cache la vérité. En 1961, tandis que Marko est devenu l'un des hommes de confiance de Tito, les résistants continuent de fabriquer des armes dans la cave, que l'habile Marko revend, empochant tous les profits. Sous terre, on célèbre le mariage de Jovan, le fils de Blacky…

The last film made in Yugoslavia, tells a story about Sarajevo during the last days of Europe, better known as the "Belle Epoque", between the years 1910-1914. A time of troubled events in the Balkans and an assassination attempt of Franz Ferdinand, which caused the beginning of the First World War.

A three-part anthology film. Story 1: A released convict traces his girlfriend and other people who were responsible for his imprisonment. Story 2: A factory worker Pantic comes to Belgrade where he befriends a waiter. Having no overnight lodge, Pantic spends the night in the bar where his new acquaintance works, and becomes a victim of group of people who start picking on him. The initially protective waiter joins their harassment, and that's when Pantic pulls out a knife. Story 3: A female reporter gets back from the province without getting job done. On her way back, she meets an abused woman who lives with her husband in a trailer, making grill. The two will run away together, facing many hazards and trials.

Taking place just after the end of Bosnian War, the series is mostly set in a kafana named Složna braća owned by Halimić brothers and located on a small patch of UN-controlled territory (covering 0.0657 km2) not claimed by any of the three warring sides. Serbs, Bosniaks, and Croats, otherwise very hostile to each other following a ferocious civil war, regularly visit the said kafana in no man's land in order to arrange mutual black market activities (weapons and food trade, oil and cigarette smuggling, etc.). When the word gets around about an important weapons shipment passing through the territory that can supposedly completely change the division of power in the Balkans, the place becomes a lively hub of espionage, deal making, and skulduggery.
