Décembre 1942. Deux jeunes soldats quittent leur poste au nord de la province de Värmland, en Suède. Ils partent en direction de la frontière norvégienne occupée par les Nazis. La Suède est au bord de l’occupation allemande. Leur périple, dans le froid glacial de l’hiver, va prendre une tournure dramatique. Le lendemain de leur fuite, le lieutenant Aron Stenström apprend que son frère Sven est l’un des deux soldats disparus. Il part, secrètement, à sa recherche… Une fois arrivé dans les forêts norvégiennes, ils se rendent compte que s’ils veulent s’en sortir vivant, ils devront franchir bien plus d’obstacles qu’ils ne le pensaient…

Johan Falk, un flic suédois, se rend sur les lieux d’un braquage violent où il tue l’un des 2 bandits mais l’autre s’enfuit. Ce dernier, un dangereux criminel bien connu des services de police, cherche à se venger en faisant croire à tous que Falk l’a agressé… C’est à son tour de s’enfuir pour pouvoir prouver la vérité.
