Il est hospitalisé depuis un certain temps, mais cet état lui semble être la meilleure façon de vivre sa vie, à l'abri de tout et de tous, sans responsabilités ni problèmes d'aucune sorte. Il s'y sent vraiment bien et même si certains de ses compagnons de salle se sentent piégés, pour eux, il peut aussi se sentir libre comme nulle part ailleurs. Cette précieuse routine se déroule sans encombre jusqu'à ce qu'une nouvelle personne soit admise dans le même service.
