Le Saint échappe aux journalistes et monte sur le bateau en se déguisant. Mais une femme journaliste Mary Langdon l'a suivi et le retrouve à l'Hôtel Regina. Dans cet hôtel Simon Templar observe des magouilles en cours dans le hall concernant un un vieil adversaire, Rudolph Hauser à l'affût de quelque chose de précieux. Dans les bois, Simon et Hayward défend un homme qui est battu par des voyous. Simon entre en possession d'un paquet que l'homme assassiné portait : une boîte à musique. Hauser et son gorille Marko apparaissent dans la salle et réclament la boîte. Simon réussit à s'enfuir...
