Dans sa première partie, le film raconte l'épisode biblique de la captivité des Hébreux en Égypte à l'époque du pharaon Ramsès II (Charles de Rochefort), leur exode vers la Terre Promise, la traversée de la Mer Rouge, Moïse (Theodore Roberts) recevant les tables des Dix Commandements. La seconde partie se situe dans les années 1920. Elle relate l'histoire des deux fils d'une femme bigote (Edythe Chapman), l'un mauvais garçon (Rod La Roque), l'autre sérieux (Richard Dix), qui convoitent tous deux la même jeune femme.

Embittered, Lola decides that from now on she will use men to her own advantage and travels to Florida to seek her first victim. She soon loses heart, however, and is about to commit suicide when Edith's invalid father, Thomas Danfield, convinces her to begin her life anew. The two become close friends and together return home, where they find that Edith, neglected and abused by Walter, has realized her mistake and is longing for James. To provide Edith with grounds for divorce, Lola allows Walter to enter her room, but when he rushes to attack her in a drunken rage, he falls down the stairs and is killed.

Phillips, however, doesn't take rejection lightly and schemes to break up Ellen and Galloway using his unwitting partner. This film is lost.

Following Yvonne's arrest, Juliette is informed by her foster sister that she was stolen by gypsies as a child and is actually Yvonne's twin sister. Juliette exposes Leon's operation to the police, reuniting Yvonne and Dick.

He puts her up and later remarks that she has dark skin for a Scottish lass. "Mexican sun," she explains. "I expected to find an old man," Jean remarks to herself.
